Philly Girls in Motion

About Us

We started in 2010 with just fifty girls. Today, a thousand girls join our sports and afterschool fitness programs.

Mission

Philly Girls in Motion empowers girls through sports and fitness to develop self-awareness, build confidence and drive personal growth in a positive environment.

HISTORY

When former athlete, Beth Devine, organized a free basketball clinic in South Philadelphia in 2009, she was surprised by the response – 200 girls showed up. There was clearly a demand for sports programs by Philadelphia girls. Philly Girls in Motion was formed in 2010 to offer more fitness and sports programs to elementary and middle school-aged girls. Philly Girls has grown from serving fifty girls at one school and one recreation center to serving 1,000 girls from nine schools, one community center and at local universities. Our past and current partners include:

  • Edward O’Malley Athletic Association
  • Philadelphia Parks & Recreation
  • Women’s Sports Foundation
  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
  • Independence Mission Schools
